now booking birth clients for 2022!

kindred family,

when i made the decision last year to take a step back from birth it was a difficult one, but it was the right one. since that announcement, november 2020 i’ve only attended two births, both had already been booked. but now, i’m ready to get back in it.

i have missed connecting with birthing people.

i’ve missed our tea dates. i’ve missed our lake walks. i’ve missed rubbing your bellies, and sitting with your kids on the floor, and eating meals with you.

and i’ve missed (most of all) watching ya’ll bring these tiny humans into the world! i’ve missed telling you how proud i am of you and seeing your beautiful faces shine when you realize all your power!

but now, i’m back booking births! if you’re due in 2022, i wanna connect with you!

what is it like to have me as your doula?

being a doula is one of the greatest privileges of my life and being your doula specifically is so special. what we do in our visits together isn’t about teaching you things you don’t know, it’s about awakening a knowledge that has long been inside of you, you just need a nudge towards remembering.

we’ll have *at least* three prenatal visits where we’ll talk about anatomy and physiology, what birth looks and feels like, interventions, comfort measures, lactation, herbs you may want to have access to, meditation and rest, sex and anything else that's relevant.

we also do things like tea dates and walks around one of the many lakes in our community. i’ll have you over for dinner, and ill sit at your feel with your kiddos. we’ll laugh and cry and come together as friends.

but why do we meet so many times?

when you give birth, you’re whole heart is opened up to the world. you need to trust the people in your space. you may cry. you may scream. you may poop on yourself. i’m gonna see you in ways people you’ve known your entire life haven’t seen you, and in order for you to feel safe following your instincts and doing whatever you need to do to push out your baby, you need to trust me with that experience.

and trust takes time.

what’s the investment for working with me?

as a birth keeper and owner of the kindred feminine, i believe that everyone should have access to the support they want and need during their pregnancies and birth. i know how hard it can be, especially in the current financial climate, to afford the things we need, and many of us are working towards a better future for birthing people. however, while we work toward a a more equitable birthing model, i realize we are not there yet.

that is why i instituted a sliding scale for births. it’s one way of acknowledging differences in wealth, income, costs, and privilege and actively addresses the economic disparities in our communities and society.

this sliding scale is a way to say no to the way things are and yes to the way they can be while providing support for all.

what kinds of births do i attend?

starting in january, i’ll be attending births that happen anywhere: in hospital, birth center, home, or as january harshe says, “unassisted, in the woods, next to a baby deer.” the where doesn’t really matter. it’s the mindset that matters most to me.

i wanna be the best doula i can be for you, but the truth is i’m not the right doula for everyone.

the kinds of birthing people i work best with are people who understand that they are the final authority of their birth. they know that their bodies are capable of birthing their baby.

that looks like:

  • asking questions,

  • learning about possible complications,

  • learning about interventions,

  • checking in with your baby and your body when making decisions,

  • trusting the voice inside of you over all others,

  • meditating and listening to your body while you’re pregnant,

  • reading and watching videos about birth

coming back to birth has been a long time coming and i’d love to be part of your birth story, or the birth stories of people close to you.

thank you for your continued support of me.

xoxo, tamara

the kindred feminine is reopening for births. booking (hospital, birth center, and home) births starting in january.
Tamara Niedermann

hi! i'm tamara, creator and owner of the kindred feminine. i have always known i am at my best when i was in support of the people around me. i surrounded myself with deep connections -- people who i could know and live life with. that desire for deep relationship is what has guided my journey to birth work, herbalism, and supporting the birthing and bleeding people in my community.

six years ago, when my younger sister and her husband started their parenting journey, she started sharing the things she was learning about pregnancy and labor. i watched documentaries with her. i read the books she recommended, and i realized that there was another way to birth your babies. until that point, the idea of home birth and midwives and doulas were sort of a joke. in movies and television they portray midwives as the hippy lady with incense and beads -- which to be fair that midwife exists and now i strive to be worthy of her -- but she's played as a joke. it took these books and documentaries, and new perspectives to show me that midwifery and doulas are legitimate callings, and home birth is a legitimate option.

simultaneous to my birth worker journey, i was coming into a better understanding of my womanhood and i wanted to have more holistic options for interacting with my fertility. so, i transitioned from hormonal birth control to the sympto-thermal method of fertility awareness to track my cycles, and then i switched out my single use menstrual products for reusables. both of these changes gave me a deeper knowledge of my cycles and my body

my growing love for fertility and body literacy combined with my heart for birthing and bleeding people and pregnancy, started me on this incredible journey of learning, and growth, and stewardship of the wisdom that has been passed to me.

the kindred feminine serves all birthing and bleeding people by supporting pregnant people prenatally, attending out of hospital births, and in the postpartum time. tamara teaches bodily autonomy through the fertility awareness method. i processes placentas, and makes herbal preparations including teas, baths, salves, and tinctures and elixirs.

i'm a bisexual cis woman who uses the pronouns she, hers, and her. i’m a newlywed in my early thirties. i'm the daughter of an immigrant single mother. i'm an advocate for fat positivity, body hair acceptance, lgbtq families, body literacy, and bodily autonomy for all people. i'm a birth keeper, and an herb
